NaNoWriMo Challenge: Writing My Novel in One Month!

I have always wanted to write a book.  It has been a dream of mine.

Therefore, since I love writing and I am competitive, I have decided to join the National Novel Writing Month competition.  It is a challenge that for the month of November you are supposed to write 50,000 words.  You post everyday and just write.  You don’t focus on the editing, just getting content.

So that is my goal for the next month.  I encourage others to do it as well.  I know many people who have said they want to write a book but don’t know how to start or what to write about.

My advice: JUST START WRITING!  If you need help, you should read “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron.  She encourages people to get up every morning and write three pages by hand.  Even if you have nothing to say, just write out “I have nothing to say” for the three pages.

I know this challenge may be hard, and there will be days when you want to quit; but, keep writing! I would appreciate your comments and participation, as it is always easier to keep going when people are on the journey with you.   But this challenge is one with myself; I have a lot to say and want to get it down.

If you are doing this challenge as well, please add me on the website ( Username: arandomthoughts).   Excited to do this challenge!

Also, check back on Thursday for a fun new series!

  1. I’m happy to be doing NaNoWriMo for the first time this year. I’ll be posting my NaNoWriMo pieces on my blog since they’ll be related to my blog. :)

Excellent idea – really motivating – for you and us readers as well! On the march we go!!!!!

  3. I won’t be doing it, but I have written a book; it was just not one that would be published; it honestly wasn’t good enough and the idea wasn’t good enough. So, I begin again. I made a vow for 5 pages per day then. That is about 1500-2000 words a day or 45.000-60,000 per month. So, I think I did that one. Good luck! And, you are right; it does take commitment.

  4. Me too, and I will be posting stuff to my texaslinda.com blog. But it is harder than not … cannot do complete stories every day. Oh well.
